A Little Bit About Me
Hi! Thank you for stopping by and checking out Salma Khan, Therapy.
A little about me and why I love doing what I do...
Salma Khan, LCSW
Salma Khan, LCSW
I have spent my life living in and around Los Angeles. Growing up as a South Asian, (i.e., Indian) Muslim American, I was sheltered (or rather restricted) from disclosing and discussing all things Mental Health. I learned early on that pain from trauma and abuses were expected (for all of us brown people) to be silently endured by the victim, and unspoken hurt from unseen ailments like anxiety and depression was merely guised by symptoms like headaches, dissociation, or even rebellion. Stigmas and taboos have ultimately compelled me to pursue a life's passion and provide support, guidance and empowerment to others struggling to make sense of this invisible illness as we all attempt to break taboos, end archaic patterns, and begin to nurture growth and healing.
My Philosophy
I am an LCSW in California, receiving my MSW from USC, with a subspecialty in relationship counseling. I'm also author of Breaking Generational Trauma, part of the South Asian Mental Health series. My client-centric approach to psychotherapy allows me to develop bespoke, individualized treatment plans that meet the specific needs of my clients. My treatment methods focus on, and include cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), short term Solution-Focused, Mindfulness training, Emotion Focused training (EFT), corporate wellness, PTSD and NPD abuse, stress management, grief and loss, and life transitions.
I work with individuals, couples, families and groups, and my clients include those dealing with mental, emotional, and medical issues not limited to anxiety & depression, burnout (i.e., caregiver, corporate, pandemic related), grief/loss, relationship issues, addiction disorders, life transitions, women's issues and generational trauma.
As the first gen daughter of immigrant Muslim American South Asian parents, I was surrounded since childhood by high achievers and hard workers. This earnestness (that earned me multiple graduate degrees), coupled with my knowledge of human behavior and corporate culture, allows me to provide focused, personalized evidence-based treatment plans that help my clients reach their goals.
